Le SWIRL sono delle alette di turbolenza dette valvole a farfalla, queste sono situate all’interno del collettore di aspirazione dei moderni motori diesel e benzina, sono progettate per aiutare a regolare il rapporto carburante/aria, migliorare le emissioni e contribuire a generare una coppia migliore a bassi regimi. A carichi leggeri del motore, le alette si chiudono, facendo vorticare l’aria nella camera di combustione, l’effetto vorticoso aiuta la combustione e aiuta a migliorare le emissioni e a generare più coppia. Dopo i 2000 giri/min le alette vengono generalmente attivate in posizione completamente aperta e hanno un effetto molto limitato sulle prestazioni del motore e sulle emissioni.
Quali sono i problemi?
Guasto meccanico grave:
alcuni veicoli, principalmente le prime BMW erano dotati di alette metalliche che erano soggette a guasti, le viti metalliche che fissavano l’aletta al mandrino si allentavano ed entravano nella camera di combustione causando danni gravi al motore.
Collettori che perdono
Col tempo le guarnizioni che circondano il perno del deflettore si frenano e provocano la fuoriuscita di aria pressurizzata dal collettore di ingresso nell’atmosfera. La perdita di pressione di sovralimentazione farà diventare miscela troppo ricca e può danneggiare altri componenti come DPF, EGR, ecc.
Accumulo di
carbonio : il carbonio dal sistema EGR insieme all’olio dal sistema di sfiato fa sì che il carbonio si accumuli sulle alette, questo riduce le dimensioni del collettore di aspirazione e può ostacolare le prestazioni.
Attuatori elettronici:
I moderni design dei collettori incorporano un attuatore elettronico che apre e chiude le alette. Questi attuatori possono guastarsi, insieme ai sensori di posizione, ciò può far sì che le alette rimangano in posizione chiusa e quindi ostacolino le prestazioni, insieme a una spia di gestione del motore e in alcuni casi alla modalità di emergenza/recovery.
Come li rimuoviamo?
Il processo di rimozione delle Swirl possono essere rimosse fisicamente, in altri casi in cui lo stato meccanico delle alette è buono e il guasto è dovuto ad un attuatore elettronico, la funzione dell’attuatore può essere disabilitato e le alette lasciate in posizione.
