Gli standard sulle emissioni di scarico per le nuove auto hanno effettivamente richiesto l’installazione di un DPF nello scarico delle auto diesel dal 2009, quando è entrata in vigore la norma “Euro 5”. Infatti, anche molte auto immatricolate prima del 2009 ne erano dotate in previsione del cambiamento degli standard.

Gli standard mirano a fornire una riduzione dell’80% delle emissioni di particolato diesel (fuliggine) ma, come i proprietari stanno scoprendo con grandi spese, la tecnologia non è priva di problemi, anzi al contrario i problemi non mancano.

Il primo dei tanti problemi è le mancate rigenerazioni portate a termine. L’auto dotata di Dpf / Fap che non termina la rigenerazione spesso causa riduzione delle prestazioni, cambi olio frequenti, ricorrere in officina per eseguire una o più rigenerazioni forzate, filtro Dpf / Fap intasato da sostituire con esborsi di costi non indifferenti, consumi carburante aumentati.

 

COME FUNZIONANO?

Il DPF è simile a un tradizionale silenziatore di scarico, ma è montato vicino al motore. All’interno si trova una complessa struttura in ceramica a nido d’ape progettata per filtrare i gas di scarico riducendo al minimo la riduzione del flusso (che altrimenti limiterebbe le prestazioni). Forzando i gas di scarico attraverso le pareti tra i canali del DPF, il particolato si deposita sulle pareti, riducendo così la quantità di inquinamento atmosferico. Una volta che il DPF raggiunge un certo livello di ‘Saturazione’ esegue un ciclo di rigenerazione per bruciare il particolato all’interno del filtro.
